WHY WE EXIST
The map we were given was incomplete.
We were taught how to work. Nobody taught us how to build a life.
Rushed onto a path before we knew who we were.
Left to navigate the biggest crossings alone.
The Determined Circle exists to complete the map.
Most of us were taught how to work, not how to build. Pushed by everyone and everything to choose a path before we knew who we were, in a world moving faster than the plan we were given. Handed a version of money built on trading our time for a paycheck, ending at retirement instead of ownership. And some of us were never handed a map at all. No exposure, no access, no one close enough to show what was possible.
So whole communities end up on the hamster wheel. Burnt out from long hours on a path that never quite fit. Making moves to survive the month instead of build the future. Working against our own wiring, needing stability while still becoming who we're meant to be. Not because we lack ambition or effort, but because the wheel was the only thing on the map.
And every year, the cost gets more personal. Students commit to debt and a path while jobs get harder to find and industries keep shifting, with no one beside them to look at it objectively, without pressure. Adults see the wheel for what it is but stay on it, because the bills don't pause, the energy runs out, and the familiar hard is safer than the unknown one. And more of our youth turn to the streets, not because they don't want a better life, but because nobody handed them the tools to build one.
The map that guides our life was design for a different world.
Schools were designed over a century ago to prepare people for an economy that no longer exists, and financial education was built for deferral, not ownership. Meanwhile industries shift in years, not generations, and even a degree no longer guarantees a stable path. That makes the fundamentals more essential, not less.
Self-knowledge, financial foundations and exposure to how things really work are what let a person make informed moves in a world that keeps changing.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Travis Lawson
Travis Lawson was born and raised in Durham, NC.
He built a career without a degree and without a traditional path. What he had was instinct, the gift of seeing big problems clearly, determined implementation to get the job done right, and learned how to build and cultivate the right team around him. That combination took him across multiple continents, into rooms with Fortune 500 companies, global brands, celebrities, government leaders, investors, and industry conglomerates.
For two decades he worked in the background bringing clarity to chaos and helping complex organizations communicate clearly, attract the right partners, scale their operations, and build momentum. He was the person called in when the stakes were high and direction was needed.
Then he lost a significant business partnership. The kind of loss that forced him to stop and ask himself what actually mattered.
He burned out. He stepped back. And he made a decision that has defined everything since: He would only work on what fills his cup. What aligns with his purpose. What his gut says yes to without reservation.
He turned down roles with national media companies. He walked away from opportunities that looked right on paper but felt wrong inside.
He got still. He got quiet.
And that's when he had a revelation: The knowledge, the exposure, the relationships, and the infrastructure that shaped his path were never available to the people he grew up around. No institution, program, or government initiative had figured out how to close that gap in a way that actually lasted.
So after 16 years he returned to Durham. Not to visit. Not to consult from a distance. But with his feet on the ground and his full attention on building the thing he wished had existed when he was stepping into adulthood.
The Determined Circle is that thing.
It's not a charity. Not a program. It's a permanent, self-sustaining ecosystem where stable businesses fund real community infrastructure, and real community infrastructure develops needed stability, the next generation of owners, leaders and operators.
The Determined Circle didn't start as a business plan. It started with a calling Travis couldn't walk away from even when it didn't feel logical—a reality he could no longer ignore.
The problem he’s now working to solve is generational: communities filled with talent and drive, but cut off from exposure, infrastructure, ownership pathways and opportunities that compound over time.
Small problems have never excited Travis. This one is as big as they come.
And he has never been more certain about anything in his life.
